MAIN PARADIGMS OF MODERN MATHEMATICS

The program was developed in 2011 and updated in 2020.

The program may be updated at the beginning of each academic semester to improve the teaching-learning process.

Type of University Entrance Examination: interview
Conferred Academic Degree: Master of Mathematics

Brief Description:

The program aims to introduce students to the most significant concepts, notions and methods of modern mathematics, teach them these concepts, notions, methods and show them organic connections between them and their typical application. Students will be enabled to master applied aspects of mathematics which involves development of approaches necessary to solve problems of practical importance. In case of successful completion of the program, graduates will have an opportunity to employ mathematics in their farther research and study.

Employment Opportunities:

Masters of Mathematics can be employed in:

  • academic institutions and organizations: communication service, industrial and communication companies, statistical service;
  • banking and insurance companies;
  • Economic Management and Planning Service, in which mathematical modelling, applied mathematics, ecological models and monitoring are widely applied;

Or they can pursue their doctoral degrees

The graduate has:

  • Deep and systematic knowledge of important, universal and widely applicable results, paradigms and methods of modern mathematical science;
  • Ability to use mathematical methods and create and investigate mathematical models to solve a wide range of actual tasks (including practical tasks);
  • The ability to select a research topic based on a critical analysis of existing knowledge in the selected field of research, to plan the research process, to independently carry out research using modern methods, and to formulate substantiated conclusions based on the obtained results;
  • The ability to communicate mathematical ideas, context, own arguments and conclusions in front of the academic and professional community both orally and in writing, observing the principles of academic integrity;
  • The ability to act autonomously in the process of teaching and research and shows his own scientific vision and professional attitude.
  • Educational and research institutions;
  • Various organizations of the public and private sector, namely in the statistics service, in banking and insurance companies, in the economy management and planning service, etc.

Graduates of the program may continue their studies at the doctoral level.

The goal of the Master’s program “Basic Paradigms and Applications of Modern Mathematics” is to prepare competent graduates for a successful professional career or further study, who will have a deep and systematic knowledge of important, universal and widely applicable paradigms, concepts and methods of modern mathematics; will be able to independently carry out research in the chosen field of mathematics; They will master the applied aspects of mathematics, which involves the development of approaches necessary for solving actual problems through generalization and abstraction.

Within the program, the student is obliged to accumulate at least 120 credits, including:

  • 10 mandatory courses – 60 credits
  • 5 elective courses – 30 credits:
    • 3 elective courses provided by the program – 18 credits
    • 2 university elective courses – 12 credits *
  • Master’s thesis – 30 credits

*The student can obtain 12 elective credits both from the block of university and program elective courses.

Note: If necessary, the student will be given the opportunity to take a remedial course from the undergraduate program without credits.

  • analysis and synthesis;
  • discussion/debate;
  • method of practical work;
  • demonstration method;
  • Supervision.

Depending on the specifics of the training components, other teaching methods may be used in the implementation of the program, which are presented in the syllabi of specific courses.
