On June 14, at 17:00, the exhibition “Soviet City: Urban Transformation of Tbilisi” will be opened in Auditorium B201 at Ilia State University.
The exhibition is carried out as a part of the “Tbilisi as an Urban Assemblage” project funded by the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia.
The exhibition will showcase the phases of Tbilisi’s urban development and provide a structural analysis of changes from the 1930s until the present day.
The research team analyzed and processed official archival documents obtained from various sources such as city maps, and textual or visual materials of the Master Plan (photos, videos) and created digital maps of the city development phases, zoning its components.
In collaboration with architecture students at Ilia State University, based on the comparison of the 1980s and 2022 Tbilisi urban condition, an interactive three-dimensional physical model and a digital map have been prepared. They vividly illustrate the changes in the city’s development.
